Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Vs Leesa

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep Vs Leesa

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Vs Leesa

Construction Helix Sleep Vs Leesa

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Vs Leesa

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Vs Leesa

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Vs Leesa

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
