Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Unboxing
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Unboxing

Construction Helix Sleep Unboxing
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Sleep Unboxing
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models sound quite right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Unboxing
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Unboxing
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
