Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Trial
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Trial

Construction Helix Sleep Trial
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Trial
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Trial
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Trial
Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
