Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep System
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep System

Construction Helix Sleep System
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Sleep System
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options feel quite right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep System
Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep System
Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
