Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Return

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep Return

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Return

Construction Helix Sleep Return

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Return

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those options seem quite right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Return

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Return

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
