Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Construction Helix Sleep Pillow Review

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options feel right, you could always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you are going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.

Final Thoughts Helix Sleep Pillow Review

If you are shopping for a mattress and aren’t quite sure what feel that you require, Helix’s Color Match system and quiz might be the secret to finding your best sleep with minimal hassle. Their amazing system, which relies on expert opinions and artificial intelligence, was created to better their client’s sleep by offering a better match. Helix Sleep Pillow Review

The features of the Helix were thoughtfully constructed to provide options whether you were searching for a mattress that stays cool all night, in the event that you wanted one to cradle your shape with a thick comfort system, or both! The reinforced coil unit should offer good edge support and motion transfer is minimal with their individually-wrapped build.

Hopefully, I have provided you some notion of what the typical customer can expect from this mattress, but it truly does offer an impressive assortment of customization with a choice for literally every particular desire or need. Your next best sleep could just be a short online quiz away.
