Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Hot

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Hot

Construction Helix Sleep Hot

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep Hot

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the version you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Hot

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep Hot

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
