Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Foundation
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Foundation

Construction Helix Sleep Foundation
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Sleep Foundation
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models seem right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Foundation
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Sleep Foundation
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
