Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Forbes
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Forbes

Construction Helix Sleep Forbes
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleep Forbes
Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models sound right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Forbes
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Forbes
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
