Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Construction Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models feel right, you can always have a look at the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Sleep Employee Reviews

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
