Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Consumer Reports
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Consumer Reports

Construction Helix Sleep Consumer Reports
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Sleep Consumer Reports
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of these models sound right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Consumer Reports
According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and experience great support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep Consumer Reports
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
