Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep/Ben
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep/Ben

Construction Helix Sleep/Ben
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Sleep/Ben
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep/Ben
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep/Ben
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
