Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Beds

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep Beds

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Beds

Construction Helix Sleep Beds

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Sleep Beds

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound right, you can always have a look at the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Beds

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep Beds

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
