Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Sleep Adam Tishman

Construction Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you want something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Sleep Adam Tishman
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
