Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix San Diego
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix San Diego

Construction Helix San Diego
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix San Diego
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel right, you may always have a look at the four other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix San Diego
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a wide range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix San Diego
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
