Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Return Policy

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Return Policy

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Return Policy

Construction Helix Return Policy

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Return Policy

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models sound quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Return Policy

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Return Policy

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1” or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
