Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Quiet Comfort Waterproof Deep-Pocket Mattress Pad

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Quiet Comfort Waterproof Deep-Pocket Mattress Pad

Construction Helix Quiet Comfort Waterproof Deep-Pocket Mattress Pad

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Quiet Comfort Waterproof Deep-Pocket Mattress Pad

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these models sound quite right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Quiet Comfort Waterproof Deep-Pocket Mattress Pad

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find great support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Quiet Comfort Waterproof Deep-Pocket Mattress Pad

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
