Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Queen Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Queen Mattress

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Queen Mattress

Construction Helix Queen Mattress

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Queen Mattress

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Queen Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Queen Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
