Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress

Construction Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel right, you can always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Queen Hybrid Mattress
Helix offers an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
