Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Quartz
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Quartz

Construction Helix Quartz
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Quartz
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options seem right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Quartz
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Quartz
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
