Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Project
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Project

Construction Helix Project
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Project
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you may always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Project
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Project
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
