Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Problems
Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective option gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Problems

Construction Helix Problems
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Problems
Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Problems
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re going to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Problems
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
