Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Plush Mattress
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Plush Mattress

Construction Helix Plush Mattress
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Plush Mattress
Below, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Plush Mattress
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Plush Mattress
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
