Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Palo Alto
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Palo Alto

Construction Helix Palo Alto
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct variants (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Palo Alto
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Palo Alto
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While getting a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you are going to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Palo Alto
Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
