Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Or Stearns And Foster

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Or Stearns And Foster

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Or Stearns And Foster

Construction Helix Or Stearns And Foster

All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Or Stearns And Foster

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different body types or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Or Stearns And Foster

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Or Stearns And Foster

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
