Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Or Purple

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Or Purple

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Or Purple

Construction Helix Or Purple

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Or Purple

Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of these options sound quite right, you can always have a look at the 4 other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Or Purple

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Or Purple

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
