Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Optimum Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Optimum Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Optimum Mattress

Construction Helix Optimum Mattress

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and hopefully have a mattress for everybody). Helix Optimum Mattress

Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options seem right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Optimum Mattress

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, the company finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Optimum Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
