Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Helix Nine9
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual model provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Nine9

Construction Helix Nine9
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Nine9
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some high quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those models feel right, you could always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Nine9
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Nine9
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
