Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Nine Shopping Mall

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Nine Shopping Mall

Construction Helix Nine Shopping Mall

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Nine Shopping Mall

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models sound right, you can always check out the four other variants in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Nine Shopping Mall

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Nine Shopping Mall

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
