Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Nine Shanghai

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Nine Shanghai

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Nine Shanghai

Construction Helix Nine Shanghai

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Nine Shanghai

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Nine Shanghai

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Nine Shanghai

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using soft circular motions, rather than rubbing.
