Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Nightfall Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Nightfall Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Nightfall Mattress

Construction Helix Nightfall Mattress

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Nightfall Mattress

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some top quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier region. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Nightfall Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll reach the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Nightfall Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
