Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Night
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Night

Construction Helix Night
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique variants (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Night
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for all people, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Night
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Night
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
