Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective model gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

Construction Helix Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options feel right, you may always check out the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you’re going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1” or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
