Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Wiki
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Wiki

Construction Helix Mattress Wiki
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Wiki
Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Majority of side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these models sound quite right, you can always check out the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the line).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Wiki
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most individuals want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, the company does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Wiki
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
