Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Vs Saatva
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective option provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Vs Saatva

Construction Helix Mattress Vs Saatva
All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density based on the foams used in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Vs Saatva
Below, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more choices.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Lastly, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you could always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Vs Saatva
According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.
When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you are going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Vs Saatva
The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
