Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Vs Leesa

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Mattress Vs Leesa

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Vs Leesa

Construction Helix Mattress Vs Leesa

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Vs Leesa

Below, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those models feel quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Vs Leesa

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Mattress is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Vs Leesa

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain to clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
