Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Underground
Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Customers are urged to fill out a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Underground

Construction Helix Mattress Underground
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Underground
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, the company has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options feel quite right, you could always check out the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Underground
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When getting a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Underground
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
