Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Unboxing
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are asked to fill out a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each individual variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Unboxing

Construction Helix Mattress Unboxing
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Unboxing
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you would like something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re needing less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically have to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you could always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant in the collection).
Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Unboxing
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals want to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Unboxing
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure to wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
