Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Stores
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for side sleepers. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Stores

Construction Helix Mattress Stores
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Stores
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.
Those who sleep on their stomach will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of these models feel right, you could always have a look at the 4 other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be significant for many people, those who doze with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of individuals wish to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the pocketed coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it’s delivered to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Stores
Helix Sleep offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the first owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
