Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Smell

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective option offers a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large assortment of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Smell

Construction Helix Mattress Smell

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct mattresses (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Smell

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and thus exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing body types or preferences can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these models seem right, you can always have a look at the four other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Smell

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will find the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils stop the mattress from compressing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, Helix Sleep does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Smell

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
