Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Setup
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual option offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are ideal for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This model has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Setup

Construction Helix Mattress Setup
All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Setup
Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are wrapped individually, they’re also going to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which is going to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Lastly, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of these models feel quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Setup
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While getting a brand-new mattress, most people would like to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Setup
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to wash using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
