Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Sagging

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual model offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them ideal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Sagging

Construction Helix Mattress Sagging

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different versions (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Sagging

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to encounter some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils below.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials in the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models feel quite right, you may always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for all sleepers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Sagging

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the opposite side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and find amazing support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Sagging

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
