Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Reviews

Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Purchasers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress variants; each individual variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Mattress Reviews

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While those with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Reviews

Construction Helix Mattress Reviews

All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Reviews

Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. In the event you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those models sound right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Reviews

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While getting a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the pocketed coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Reviews

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to clean using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
