Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Reviews Sleep Like The Dead

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress options; each individual option provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for side sleepers. While those with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Reviews Sleep Like The Dead

Construction Helix Mattress Reviews Sleep Like The Dead

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Helix Mattress Reviews Sleep Like The Dead

Underneath, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or those who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Majority of side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or tastes can also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if none of those models sound quite right, you could always check out the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Reviews Sleep Like The Dead

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

While you may experience a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you will reach the pocketed coils and find great support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t ideal, you can return it for free of charge, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Reviews Sleep Like The Dead

Helix Warranty

Helix offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
