Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Returns
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective model offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to prefer the variants with additional support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Returns

Construction Helix Mattress Returns
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the models have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Returns
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their different feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.
Lying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Last, the manufacturer suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or tastes may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you can always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Returns
Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they will feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.
While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and find great support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Returns
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to have a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
