Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Ratings

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Mattress Ratings

Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Ratings

Construction Helix Mattress Ratings

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine distinct models (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Ratings

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to experience some great body contouring. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam layer, it is crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the structure, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the other materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound right, you may always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all buyers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Ratings

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, as well as the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is no different. You create the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and get a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Ratings

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that generally happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it is advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain that you clean using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
