Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Rating
Helix Sleep offers full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a survey that discusses their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 pounds or more tend to favor the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Rating

Construction Helix Mattress Rating
All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Rating
Below, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it generates quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on which variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with more options.
Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and make an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Majority of side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller region. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those models sound right, you can always check out the 4 other beds in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Rating
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While purchasing a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
While you are going to experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and find fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Couples who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.
Laying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free, and receive a full refund.
Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix finds a local place to donate it. When there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Helix Mattress Rating
Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Be sure that you clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
