Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced using polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Queen Price

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are requested to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective option gives a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while people who weigh 130 lbs or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these models have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Mattress Queen Price

Construction Helix Mattress Queen Price

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Helix Mattress Queen Price

Below, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some great breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change fabric to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some gratifying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to allow additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with more choices.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you may want to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most of their weight on a smaller region. People who are smaller than average or those in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so that they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or tastes can also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of these models seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for many people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Queen Price

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, when you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secured sitting on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I think that the Helix has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and within 2 weeks, it’s sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it free of charge, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. In fact, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Queen Price

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the warranty, and you will need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1” or more, which is what usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you wash using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
