Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Platform
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective option offers a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and additional support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a large assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Platform

Construction Helix Mattress Platform
All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the variants have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 different models (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Mattress Platform
Underneath, I quickly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you would like something more lavish, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are probably going to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem odd for a purportedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it produces quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Lastly, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.
Many side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically have to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. People who are lighter than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.
Last, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 lbs or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with different body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of these options feel right, you could always check out the 4 other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).
Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be significant for all buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Platform
According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.
While buying a brand-new mattress, most men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, when you sink through those layers, you are going to find the pocketed coils and feel great support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secure sitting on the mattress.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Couples who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it’s delivered to your door. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free, and receive a complete refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Mattress Platform
Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For routine cleanup, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using gentle circular movements, instead of rubbing.
