Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Mattress Luxe

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress variants; each respective model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Mattress Luxe

Construction Helix Mattress Luxe

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of pocketed coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based on the foams used in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 unique foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique models (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Mattress Luxe

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some wonderful breathability. However, if you want something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change material to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and produces some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a tinier area. Those who are lighter than average or people looking for a lot of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options feel quite right, you can always have a look at the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Helix Mattress Luxe

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that movement from the other side of the bed will bother you, you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you may encounter a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, when you sink through those layers, you’ll reach the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the Helix Midnight, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel very secure sitting on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Lying down, I feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Helix Mattress Luxe

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
